trow

Scottish "dark elves" who live in mines and caves, particularly around Orkney; they are similar to the Norse svartalfar. Unlike the similar drow, they are not exclusively evil, but tend more in that direction.

The word trow is probably related to the Germanic dwarf, with whom they share many characteristics.
