Via Sisyphus, via Serfdom: Cervical cancer is on the rise. I myself am at a major risk for it, already being infected with HPV, an unforunately common STD. It isn't necessarily deadly if you get the yearly pap smear to catch it in time. But many women--particularly teenage girls--don't do that, figuring this is something older women have to deal with. So the rate of HPV among young women (and men) is rising rapidly--the article in question says "Half of all sexually active women between 18 and 22 in the US are infected"--as is the risk for cervical cancer.
Good news: there's a vaccine to prevent it.
Bad news: Fundies don't want you getting it. Why? 'Cause then you'll have sex.
Yep. It's as simple as that. Here there's a way to prevent death from even occuring. But that's bad, you see--prevent someone from dying from sex, and they'll go out and have sex. Of course, this disregards the fact that even married women can get it from their husbands, but then, no one seems to care if men keep their pants zipped.
Yeah, this hits home. I wish this vaccine had been out there before I became sexually active--something which didn't happen, btw, until I was over 20. Of course, by the fundies' reckonings, I should be burning in hell anyway.
Me, I'm scared. My screenings have been coming back abnormal. Further tests so far show there's no cancer yet, but I keeping having to have biopsies of my cervix.
So, fuck you, you so-called Christians. Jesus always did like the prositutes more than the Pharisees.

Republican Alabama lawmaker Gerald Allen says homosexuality is an unacceptable lifestyle. As CBS News Correspondent Mark Strassmann reports, under his bill, public school libraries could no longer buy new copies of plays or books by gay authors, or about gay characters."I don't look at it as censorship," says State Representative Gerald Allen. "I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children."
Books by any gay author would have to go: Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote and Gore Vidal. Alice Walker's novel "The Color Purple" has lesbian characters.
Allen originally wanted to ban even some Shakespeare. After criticism, he narrowed his bill to exempt the classics, although he still can't define what a classic is. Also exempted now Alabama's public and college libraries.
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
And the governor's true
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
Yea, yea Montgomery's got the answer
Yeah, man. Montgomery. I can't believe this song still gets on the air. Naw, it ain't fascism--it's just southern hospitality.

Depression Makes It Hard to Write
And I am very depressed right now. A whole host of things, I won't get into them here. Some political, some personal.
